Another month ends but not the showers that have now been forecast to last pretty much all of May. I’m already behind with my veg timetable
since the never-ending deluge prevents me from spending any time preparing the
beds for planting. As quoted in the
local press, it is indeed the wettest drought for 20 years – Noah would be
turning a nifty profit in ready to assemble arks!
Rain has not stopped us from getting out and about. Last weekend, we spent the day exploring the
quaint town of Rye in East Sussex. A
lovely traditional town (no chain stores) with cobbled streets and loads of
antique shops, definitely ‘tat’ heaven for those like me who like to rummage in
old overpriced rubbish. I may not have
been tempted to buy any old trinkets but I did come away with a hop plant to
add a bit of interest to the garden wall.
Hops are fairly rampant climbers with the added advantage of providing
free ingredients for home brewing.

Dodging showers all the way home, we parked up in Seaford
to see the sunset and enjoy a hastily thrown together chicken sandwich in the
car.
